"Chickadee in a Red Bush"

A black-capped chickadee perches among the bare branches of a bush with red coloured bark, puffing up it’s feathers to protect it from the chilly winter weather.

Captured in Lynde Shores Conservation Area in Whitby, Ontario, Canada; with a Canon Rebel XS using a 55-250mm lens. Lynde Shores is maintained by the Central Lake Ontario conservation Authority.

The Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) is a small, common songbird of the tit family, widely distributed in Canada, Alaska, and the northern United States.
The black-capped chickadee favours deciduous woods and gardens. They are non-migratory birds, but do sometimes move south within their range in winter.
They are quite vocal birds, with complex calls to alert the flock of predators, food sources, and to coordinate flock movement, including complex information. The most well known call is the distinctive chick-a-dee-dee-dee call that gave the species it’s name.
