Waterton Lakes National Park - Photo of the Day - May 7th, 2011

"Waterton Lakes National Park"

A scenic waterfall tumbles down out of the Rockies, through dense pine forests, un Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada.

Nestled in the south-western corner of Alberta, Canada, the Canadian focal point in the Crown of the Continent region of the Rocky Mountains, Waterton Lakes National Park is Canada's fourth national park. It presents visitors with a huge variety of scenic landscapes, ranging from prairie grasslands, aspen groves, alpine meadows, sub-alpine forests to rugged mountain peaks.

Despite being joined with Glacier National Park in Montana, USA to form the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, and being named a World Heritage Site, this park is still slightly off the radar compared to the more famous national parks in North America and is kept that way by it's location and it's network of roads that lead nowhere in particular.
